Breakfast at Piccolo Café

There is a tiny little café in one of the loveliest squares of the 6th district in Budapest that brings a real authentic Italian atmosphere into the life of local people. This is Piccolo Café where “nomen est omen” aka the name says it all. 🙂 It is really a miniature coffee shop with only 3 table-for-2 upstairs on the intimate gallery. When the weather is nice, 2 very small tables flank the entrance on the tiny outdoor seating area. Nonetheless, they have everything for a perfect breakfast.

Káli Basin is the most characteristic part of the Balaton Uplands and with its 9,111 hectares forms an integral part of the Balaton Uplands National Park. It is an easy 2.5-hour drive from Budapest and only 10 minutes by car from the north shore of Lake Balaton. Many church towers, wine cellars and the signs of a variety of agricultural work, vineyards, meadows and ploughlands, constitute a special landscape in the Káli Basin.

Breakfast at Liberté Grand Café

My mom must be right: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And it applies to everyone from jet-setters through globetrotters to backpackers and flashpackers. Although I’m not a morning person, I like sitting at the table having breakfast. Even if there is an early morning rush, for me there’s no breakfast without a cup of coffee.  read more

Hake, the cult summer food

1024 678 Sylvia123

Hake (hekk, in Hungarian) is a cult summer food in Hungary. Although this fish comes from the sea, and Hungary is a landlocked country, we, Hungarians have built a whole culture around it. Hake has become one of the basic summer eating options for Hungarians beside lángos, pancake and corn on the cob. It’s a big star of the Hungarian “beach cuisine” along rivers and around lakes in the country. Little kiosks on the shore sell hake with pickles and white bread, no doubt. read more

Every summer I spent my holidays at my grandma’s and we went to the market every morning to buy fresh local delicacies to prepare lunch. read more

360Bar – Rooftop Bar in Budapest

1024 576 Sylvia123

I’m not sure why, but there’s something about drinking on a rooftop that makes it simply far more exciting than drinking on the ground floor. It could be the incredible views and the luxurious surroundings of the rooftop bar space, or the fact that you can unashamedly stare at the world and people below, or simply feeling like you’re part of this secret club up in the sky. Whatever it is, I love rooftop terraces, and I feel lucky because Budapest offers some amazing ones. read more

Paris Department Store (Párisi Nagy Áruház) is located at 39 Andrássy Avenue in the heart of Budapest. This breathtaking avenue is mainly defined by stylish café-bars, premium and luxury retailers. Just like the avenue, Paris Department Store also holds a long history. It was built in 1882 based on the designs by Gusztáv Petschancher. Its facade facing Andrássy Avenue was designed in Art Nouveau style, while its side looking at Paulay Ede Street is Neo-Renaissance. read more
